Okay, I’ll assume you did the homework from the previous lesson, so we can carry on with the next “episode” about the basics of Notion.
Today, I would like to talk about some blocks that will make your workspace become more visual, importing and handling with different kind of attachments
So, what are we waiting for? Let’s begin
1️⃣ Image
What kind of tool would Notion be if it couldn't import pictures and images?
As you can imagine, you can do this in Notion using the command:
/ + image
This block offers several different options. Let me explain each one's features:
Upload Image → the easiest option. This lets you access files on your laptop and select a picture to import into Notion. You can then adjust the picture's size to fit your content.
Embed Link → my favorite option. This lets you import an image by simply pasting its URL into the box. It works just like uploading, but without needing to download the picture first. Disclaimer: be mindful of copyright—not every online image can be freely used in your Notion space.
Unsplash → for the detail-oriented folks. Unsplash is an online repository where photographers share high-quality images that you can use by simply crediting the author. Personal recommendation: these images are typically cleaner and higher quality than what you'll find elsewhere online.
Giphy → for adding some fun. Like Unsplash, but for GIFs. If you want to add humor to your pages without much hassle, this is your best option. Remember to credit the author, especially if you plan to publish the page.
2️⃣ Video
Next, let's add some "movement" to our pages. What better way than with a video?
Again, we'll use the same handy command:
/ + video
Here are our two options:
Upload video → the simplest choice. This opens a file picker that lets you select a video from your laptop. You can then resize and optimize it for best viewing.
Embed → my favorite option (part 2). Just paste the video's URL and it'll appear right in your Notion page. Quick reminder: always respect copyright!
3️⃣ Audio
Let’s move on now with sound.
One of the main usage I exploited Notion was taking notes during lectures at university (nice, old days…). Many times, you might have a recorded version of the lecture you want to listen again in a second move.
Again, the same command:
/ + Audio
Guess it, you have the nice two option again:
Upload Audio → like we saw before, this option allows you to select an audio file from your laptop and import it directly into Notion. Perfect for voice memos, recorded lectures, or any other audio content you want to keep organized.
Embed → just paste the URL of your audio file or streaming service (like Spotify tracks or SoundCloud uploads) and Notion will create a neat player right on your page. Remember that some platforms might have restrictions on embedding!
4️⃣ File
One of the most common uses for Notion is organizing school and university notes.
As any good productivity tool should, Notion makes it easy to include files in your workspace.
You can upload almost any type of file to Notion, from Word documents to PDFs.
To do this, use the command:
/ + File
You have two options:
Upload File → lets you select and upload a file from your computer
Embed File → lets you paste a link to an external file and make it accessible in your workspace (remember to respect copyright)
5️⃣ Bookmark
Finally, let's explore the bookmark option.
This simple feature lets you save webpage links directly in your workspace.
Bookmarks are great for:
Quoting online resources
Saving important links for future reference
Building your Personal Knowledge Manager
…
Like the other commands, use:
/ + Bookmark
Simply paste any URL, and it will appear as a neat preview on your page
✅ Wrap-up: A More Visual, Engaging Workspace
With just these five content blocks — Image, Video, Audio, File, and Bookmark — you’ve unlocked a whole new dimension of what Notion can do.
These elements don’t just make your pages prettier — they make them richer, more interactive, and better suited to how we consume information today.
Whether you’re building a study dashboard, a creative portfolio, or your own second brain, these blocks will help you express more and scroll less.
💪 Challenge: Create a Multimedia Hub
Try this quick exercise to put what you learned into action:
Create a new Notion page called "Media Vault"
Add a header image using Unsplash
Embed a YouTube video that inspires you
Upload an audio clip or voice memo you want to keep
Add a PDF you use often (like a syllabus or workbook)
Bookmark a site you visit frequently
🎯 This will help you get comfortable mixing different formats — and show you how Notion can become your all-in-one digital playground.
Next time, we’ll explore even more ways to supercharge your workspace.
Until then, keep building! 🚀
